Roo Room – 2-3 years

Hello, we in Roo Room endeavour to provide a safe, homely and calm and fun environment for 2-3 year olds, that allows your children to learn new skills and develop actively, learning through play. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and focus on the 3 prime areas of learning (Personal Social and Emotional, Communication Language and Literacy and Physical Development).

Our team consists of Kate the Deputy Manager and previous baby unit Supervisor. She has been here since October 2001 and qualified as NNEB and cert EYFS. Kate has worked within Early Years for over 15 years. She moved over to head Roo room in February 2017. Kate enjoys doing singing, music and movement with the children as well as messy play.

Mike is a qualified teacher who passed his QTS back in 2001 and has worked in both Reception and Year 1 for five years. He has also worked in two other settings, one with a Forest Pre-School. Mike is married and has 3 grown-up children and two wonderful grandchildren to keep him busy outside of work! Mike joined the team in June 2014 working in Kanga room firstly and moving to Roo room in October 2017.

Angela qualified as NNEB in 1993 and has since gained experience in Early years for over 10 years. Prior to working at Headstart Angela was a nursery practitioner in a school setting and a Deputy for another local playgroup in Horsham. Angela first worked in Roo room in October 2013 until October 2016 when she took a break to experience an older age range, but decided that 2 year olds were her favourite and most enjoyable age to work with, so returned to Roo room in October 2017. Angela is married and has three children of her own.

Katie joined the Roo team in April 2018.

Our Roo’s have the run of a large play room and free flow castle/fort area which can accommodate up to 14 2-3 year olds. In the room we have a variety of toys and activities for the children to explore; mark making areas, creative and sensory exploration, baking, small world and much more. The Roo’s also have access to a larger outside area which can accommodate every 2 year olds ever changing, highly curious imaginations with a variety of opportunities to climb, ride and explore their environment. We love going onto the playing fields and running about seeing what we can collect. On a nice day we can be found enjoying tea there too. We equally aim to ensure that our homely environment is calm and not too over stimulating as this is an important aspect to this age groups wellbeing.

Our room is where a lot of milestones are achieved learning to be more independent, sharing skills, self-soothing when asleep, potty training, using a knife and fork and sitting at the table feeding themselves not to mention speech and language and physical development.
